Health Informatics×Field Epidemiology

From the first signal to the field response.

A physician and public health informatician with 7+ years in national public health, currently training in field epidemiology. I design and lead the digital platforms that help public health teams detect emerging threats early, coordinate the response and act on reliable data.

FIELD
The story

Field epidemiology, engineered.

Outbreaks are won or lost on speed: how fast a signal is seen, assessed and acted on. After seven years in national public health, I stopped waiting for the tools and started building them.

Each platform covers one stage of the surveillance–response cycle, built on epidemiological method first and software second.

Global Health Intelligence
مرصد الصحة العالمية

Event-based surveillance for Saudi Arabia. GHI reads the world's public health sources and social media, turns reports into structured events and puts the ones that matter in front of epidemiologists, before they become headlines.

  • IHR (2005) Annex 2 decision instrument and a WHO-style rapid risk assessment on every event
  • Live radar fed by open-source collection: official health agencies, news outlets and social media, swept around the clock and plotted as they land
  • Social listening through lexical, semantic and syndromic gates; the final flag is decided by rules, not by AI

حدثHADATHPublic Health Incident Command

An Incident Command System for public health events, first built to track events during Hajj. When an event is declared, Hadath gives the response one structure, one plan and one picture of the situation, from the command room to the field team.

  • ICS by design: commander, sections and objectives for each operational period
  • Surveillance and initial reporting modules feeding daily epidemiological reporting
  • Field-first: Arabic reports from the team on the ground, straight into the command picture

The logo: the three dots of ث become the command triangle.

CARE

نبضةNABDAH

Clinic patient paging with no hardware. A patient scans the facility's QR code, reception assigns a clinic, and their phone alerts them with the clinic, floor and room when they are called.

  • Data minimisation: patient data is deleted the moment they enter the room
  • QR check-in and live clinic screens, with phone alerts by Web Push
  • One clinic or a whole hospital: clinics by floor, staff roles and an audit log, each facility isolated, Arabic-first

STEPمنصة خطوة

The one that isn't about epidemics. Programs fail at follow-through, so I built a place for it. STEP started as a way to track regional tasks and escalations, and grew into a platform any organization can sign up to.

  • No self-approval, server-enforced workflow and automatic escalation after 3 days late
  • Initiatives with weighted milestones and live dashboards
  • Mandatory two-factor security, a per-organization audit log, Arabic-first

بصيرةBASIRAPublic Health Sensing

What if the buildings we already have could tell us when something is wrong? Basira adds low-resolution thermal sensors to existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, turning it into an early signal of crowding and heat stress without cameras or identities.

  • Reuses what exists: an add-on to Wi-Fi access points, not new infrastructure
  • Private by design: low-resolution thermal grids, so no faces and no images
  • From pitch to pilot: founded, presented to executive leadership and now being piloted

METHOD
How I build

Epidemiology first. Code second.

I lead every product as owner and domain expert, from the epidemiological method to the release. Clear checks between each step mean speed never costs rigour.

01

Method

The case definitions, scoring rules, roles and data retention are written down before any code.

02

Build

Each feature is built to that written plan, and I approve every change against it through a shared handoff log.

03

Review

Every change gets an independent review, and end-to-end tests protect the workflows that matter.

04

Release

Every change goes to staging first. A failed check blocks the release, and every action is logged.

JOURNEY
Journey

From the emergency room to the field.

At each step I looked at health from wider up: first individual patients, then populations, then the systems that protect them.
